An interesting and unique site that demanded an innovative design solution to overcome previous planning refusals.
The land is located near to the centre of the historic town of Ludlow and situated within an important landscape designation of open green space. Due to the sensitivities of the site, previous attempts to secure any development permission were all refused, including an Appeal to the Planning Inspectorate. We carefully studied the constraints and came up with a plan to tackle the issues and deliver a valuable consent in partnership with the landowner, our bearing the planning risk and taking a share of the increase in value.
An innovative ‘earth shelter’ single level home was conceived. This design allowed the building to be hidden in the hillside, offering privacy for the future residents and a discrete development in it’s surroundings – preserving the green open space.
Subsequently the site was sold to a self builder, kindly we were invited back some months later to view his work in progress.
